Is UV Teeth Bleaching Safe?
Does UV Teeth Bleaching Cause Cancer
Teeth Whitening Blue Light Does It Work
I often get questions on teeth lightening and safety. I am regularly told that “everyone knows” how teeth bleaching strips enamel from your teeth and damages them for good.
Will UV Teeth Whitening give me cancer,
It appears to me that as a dentist who no longer sees patients, I am in an unprejudiced position to set the record straight : Teeth lightening done properly is safe, and it doesn’t work by stripping enamel from your teeth!
Uv Teeth Bleaching is a method used to turn on chemical to speed the process.
Many folk could have gotten the inaccurate concept due to how older bleaching formulas used to work.
And naturally, the concept you have got to scrub your teeth as if you are cleaning the grout in the lavatory tiles never appears to depart.
If I got paid for each mangled toothbrush coming from too much “elbow grease” during brushing, I’d be a particularly rich woman! ( although dentists have been advocating nothing apart from soft bristles for years, the medium and hard ones are still on the market. Enough folks stubbornly believe they should attack their teeth to get them clean and white, that stiff bristles sell well )
Today, we are living in the age of chemicals.
Abrasives are the enemy. But Uv teeth whitening works alongside chemical agents, not abrasives. These lightening ( or bleaching ) agents really react with the stain deep within your teeth to neutralize it.
View your teeth under a microscope and the surface will look something similar to a honeycomb.
Over time, the blotches on the tooth’s surface work their way thru this system of tubes and become besieged inside the honeycomb structure. The stain is now part of your tooth.
We dentists call this “intrinsic stain”. It cannot be brushed away, whatever how hard you try.
To work, bleaching agents need to get rid of the plugs so they can penetrate to the inner layer of your teeth, where they work their wizardry.
The active component loses efficacy quickly, so no necessity to worry that you are trapping harmful chemicals inside. After a little time ( sometimes 2 weeks ), the plugs return.
Sensitivity is the #1 side-effect that gives teeth lightening a bad rap, and makes people think it’s doing permanent harm.
The power of the whitening agent, how it’s applied, and how long / often the teeth are exposed are all factors in sensitivity. So is the degree of temperature sensitivity you have before you lighten.
You might have to try more than one product, even with your dentist, before finding the one that gives you maximum results with minimum sensitivity.
But if you are like the majority of today’s beauty conscious patients, you may come away smiling!!!
